Andy Towle & Towleroad



Andy Towle, who celebrated his 50th birthday last month, is an American blogger and media commentator based in New York City. Andy started his influential blog “Towleroad” in 2003, while he was living in Los Angeles. His blog focuses on many aspects of gay culture. Andy now works full time creating and editing his blog, found at http:/towleroad.com . Sub-categories include Daily Resist, Politics, Travel, Music, Theatre, Film, TV, Sports and Nature – not to mention Business, Men, Marriage Equality, Space, Trans Rights, Books, Science and Gay Iconography.

Towle’s career has included stints as editor in chief of Genre magazine, a gay men's lifestyle publication, and editor-at-large for Out Traveler, a gay travel quarterly. During the 1980s-90s his poetry appeared in The Paris Review and Poetry Magazine.

Andy holds two B.A. degrees from Vassar College (Poughkeepsie, NY) in Art History and English. He was awarded the W.K. Rose Fellowship in the Creative Arts by Vassar, a Wallace Stegner graduate fellowship at Stanford University, and two writing fellowships at the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, Massachusetts. While in Provincetown he was immersed in gay culture and lifestyle, producing poetry while working as a pool boy and bartender at The Boatslip. After moving to New York in 1992, he became a bartender and manager at Splash, a  trendy and popular Chelsea gay bar. After living in Hong Kong and Los Angeles, he returned to NYC in 2004.

Andy’s partner since 2009 is Emmy Award winner David Grant, a composer, arranger, producer and pianist. David, who has TV and film writing credits, is a graduate of the Juilliard School of Music (NYC), Boston University and Brooklyn College.
